The most popular trending material on YouTube as of December 2022 was compiled.
You could certainly look at their list of the most popular creators, top videos, or trendiest Shorts (the platform’s reaction to TikTok-style short form videos), but who cares about any of that nonsense? Everyone is aware that you wish to watch those delightful advertisements.
This selection of audience favorites is sure to please anyone who can’t get enough of the pre-roll advertisements that YouTube forces you to see before you watch a video.
In order to serve the most “popular” advertisements, YouTube analyzed the figures based on views, viewing time, and audience retention (factoring both paid and organic views, i.e. people that actually went out and searched for the ads on purpose).
In order to encourage participation from additional businesses, the corporation set a limit of one entry per advertiser.
Here are the most popular advertisements in the US, but if you want to go global, YouTube also offered a breakdown of the most popular advertisements globally.
#1 Amazon’s Big Game Commercial: Mind Reader | Amazon
An advertisement from your familiar friends at Amazon is at the top of the list. Celebrities are just like us, really! Celebrity couple Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost discover that their Alexa has gathered so much information about them that it can genuinely read their minds in this Amazon commercial. Even if Amazon no longer thinks highly of Alexa, it wants you to believe that this is a good thing.
#2 Welcome to CLAN CAPITAL! | Clash of Clans
In the past, popup adverts for other apps would only contain Clash of Clans advertisements. Thankfully, those days are in the past. The well-known mobile strategy game now has its own YouTube advertising, courtesy of capitalism and CGI. Seriously, after seeing advertisements for this game for a decade, I have never personally heard of anyone playing it. Having fun? To bring in more than $700 million in 2019, it must be. Please share your hot opinion on Clash of Clans in the comments below.
#3 Goal of the Century x BTS | Yet To Come (Hyundai Ver.)
Boy wonders BTS don’t just make great songs, they made ads too. Here they are with the special Hyundai version of their hit “Yet To Come.” That’s right, they can sing, dance AND promote cars. But you don’t have to take my word for it, check the commercial out in all of its glory below.
#4 Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts | HBO Max
You will like hearing folks talk about appearing in the Harry Potter films if you are a fan of the series. This is your chance, as all of your favorite witches and wizards—or at least the actors who played them—are getting together for a reunion on HBO. You could go watch the 20th Anniversary special by yourself, but why would you do that when you can see an advertisement for it right now?
#5 Introducing the iPhone 14 Pro | Apple
The only thing better than an iPhone is an ad for an iPhone. Here’s one for the iPhone 14. It looks great, doesn’t it? In this ad you can see the iPhone from the back, the front, the side, being lovingly wiped down, filming a guy playing piano, sitting on a table—it’s all just amazing. This, my friends, is what we call content. Think about it, instead of reading all of these dumb words you could be watching this ad right now!
#6 All of Us Are Dead | Netflix
Following the success of Squid Game, Netflix is investing more in Korean television, and the bloody high school zombie movie All of Us Are Dead’s trailer appears to have performed well this year. Additionally, Gizmodo gave it a perfect review.
#7 Sally’s Seashells (Extended) | Squarespace
It’s well established that Zendaya is Meechee. But she needs to pay the bills, so in this Squarespace Super Bowl commercial, Zendaya moonlights as Sally, of “Sally sells sea shells by the sea shore” fame. There’s trouble in paradise, but don’t worry, everything is sorted out when finally gets a website.
#8 Zeus & Hera | BMW
In this BMW commercial, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Penélope Cruz play the roles of Greek gods who are spending their golden years among us mere mortals. But when Zeus, for whatever reason, becomes irritated by electricity, they run into difficulties. Until Hera shows him the brand-new BMW i3 all-electric, that is.
#9 The Kardashians | Hulu
Kardashian family. You adore them, and Hulu has them. And if this advertisement is to be believed, they’re BACK with a new season (the show is airing). It shows every Kardashian family member who is most famous doing what they do best: taking pictures and utilizing their phones. Never ending miracles.
#10 The Magical World of Disney’s Encanto | LEGO Encanto
This silent ad for the Disney Encanto Lego kit ranks number ten.
The commercial features all of the Lego replicas of your favorite Encanto characters just standing about and staring at each other in a continuous stop motion animation.
Toy videos are very common on YouTube, and it appears that Lego attracted the attention of kids who must have viewed this movie often to obtain the numbers this high.
