Launching of SSNIT Mobile Service Week in Tamale last Monday of this year Dr John Ofori-Tenkorang, the Director-General of SSNIT, said that currently, there have been about 1,500 invalid people (pensioners) who were being catered for and living financially independent lives because they joined the scheme.
The Social Security and National insurance Trust (SSNIT) says this year it’s up to now paid GHc1.66 million to invalid beneficiaries under its deficiency annuity, with some of the retired people being almost as youthful as 30 years.
The shortcoming annuity advantage is paid to individuals from the plan who, no matter how old they’re, have endured mishaps or sicknesses that make it unimaginable for them to figure over again.
The goal of the mobile service week is to entice players within the informal sector, particularly the self-employed, like carpenters, tailors, dressmakers, hairdressers, chop bar operators, mechanics, and commercial drivers, to register with and get pleasure from the scheme.
Dr Ofori-Tenkorang clarifies that people who had contributed for a minimum of 12 months within the previous 36 months and had been certified by a medical board as being unable to figure again were eligible for the SSNIT benefit, adding that they’d be bought the remainder of their lives unless they recovered at some point
“So you’ll be driving a trotro, Uber, or taxi today, otherwise you could also be the simplest mechanic or fitter in town, but one mistake or error of judgment could maim you for life; which is when SSNIT will step in as your lifeline by paying you a monthly pension for as long because it is important,” he explained.
According to the director, SSNIT paid benefits totalling GHc3.3 billion last year, and it’ll pay GHc250,000 to approximately 233,000 pensioners in August 2021. He also stated that ”a beneficiary received approximately GHc130,000 because his monthly premiums were high and he had been a long-term member of the scheme”.

“Some pensioners received GHc300 because they insured very low salaries with SSNIT while working,” he explained.
