On Tuesday, January 25, 2022, the inmate, Eyram Botwe, was brought before the court on a charge of attempted robbery. He was part of a band of criminals that pepper-sprayed a motorcyclist in Agorve, near Akatsi, in an effort to steal him of his Haojue motorcycle.
The defendant came in court, pled guilty to the crime, and was found guilty based on his own admissions. His Lordship Isaac Addo, who delivered the ruling, stated he took into account the fact that the accused was a first-time offender, which explains his fifteen-year sentence.
Two more people have been apprehended in connection with the heist by the same Court when they appeared before it.
The duo pleaded not guilty right to the charge of conspiracy and robbery when they appeared before the court on Thursday, 27th January 2022. They are expected to reappear before the court on February 10, 2022.
In a police statement issued by the Volta Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service, it is noted that “the robbery of motorbikes mostly Okada, is becoming quite rampant in recent times and the command is convinced that recent arrest by the Akatsi District and subsequent sentencing would stem the tide.”
