Today February 3, 2022, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government will host another Extraordinary Summit in Accra to discuss the political situation in Burkina Faso.
Following the coup d’état in Burkina Faso on January 24, 2022, the Heads of State attended an Extraordinary Summit on the 28th of January 2022. The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, who is also the Chairman of ECOWAS, was present at the meeting.

Following the Summit, the Authority dispatched a high-level ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff mission to have talks with military officials.
A Joint Ministerial Mission, led by the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers, was also dispatched to Burkina Faso to examine the political situation and report to the Authority of Heads of State.
The Heads of State will evaluate and discuss findings from these high-level missions during today’s Extraordinary Summit.
Management of Traffic:
Meanwhile, the Accra Regional Police Command has declared that certain major highways in Accra would be temporarily closed ahead of today’s Extraordinary Summit of ECOWAS Heads of State.
The Jubilee Lounge to Liberation Road at Opeibea, Liberation Road from the Airport traffic light through the Independence Avenue, and Kempinski Hotel to National Theatre on the Independence Avenue through Ako Adjei, according to a statement signed by DSP Juliana Obeng of the Police Service’s Public Affairs Unit.
Motorists should be aware of the traffic arrangements and follow them, according to the statement. The Police Command has made appropriate provision for Motor Traffic police at vantage points to provide necessary assistance to motorists, according to the statement.
It urged the public to work with the Service in order to guarantee proper traffic management during and after the ECOWAS Summit.
