The nine students from Lwanga R/C JHS who drowned in the river were not candidates for the 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination, according to Saboba police (BECE).

Students who drowned in the Saboba accident were not BECE candidates, according to Saboba District Police Commander DSP Shine Zoiku, but Form 1 and 2 students. He went on to say that the men who died were all between the ages of 16 and 22.
He went on to say that the men who died were all between the ages of 16 and 22. All of the survivors, according to DSP Zoiku, were men.
He also said that school officials claimed they were unaware of the headteacher’s decision to involve the students in farming activities.
The children were racing on the river in three canoes, according to the DSP. He went on to say that the first canoe successfully crossed the river, but that while the other two were racing down the river, the canoe in the back collided with the one in front, causing it to capsize.
