One Favour Blessing, 41, a Nigerian resident of Tamale, was sentenced to five years in jail for human trafficking and forced prostitution by the Tamale circuit court.

The defendant begged for mercy before his Lordship, Judge Alexander Oworae, handed down his punishment.
The judge rejected her request for leniency, explaining that the severity of the punishment should serve as a deterrence to those considering similar crimes.
He then gave her a five-year jail term.
According to the investigation conducted by the police, the suspect was apprehended on Sunday, December 4, 2022, while she was pursuing a victim who had defied her commands through the streets of Tamale.
During the pursuit, the victim, a Nigerian national, took shelter with a kind Samaritan who just so happened to be a police officer.
The accused has been trafficking people from Nigeria to Ghana under the guise of providing them employment, according to further investigations.
She travels back and forth between the North and the Savannah, where she traffics women into prostitution.
