Ayesem, born Stephen Kwabena Siaw, is a popular Ghanaian singer, rapper, and composer who remarked that collecting numerous awards doesn’t make an artist good.
The well-known artist gave a classic example, saying that even if renowned musicians like Okomfour Kwadee never received any recognition, they are still revered for the type of work they produced in the past.
Ayesem expressed his thoughts on accolades for musicians, saying that he didn’t believe they automatically ensured an artist would be relevant but rather that their durability in the music industry.
“To me, I think that winning awards doesn’t qualify you to be a good artiste since there are so many good artiste who have passed but didn’t even earn an award,” he said to the host Amansan Krakye.
But Ghanaians really respected them and knew the kind of works they were doing because artistes like Okomfour Kwadee didn’t get awards but still they are legends,
People look up to them and really know their songs so to me I don’t think awards even guarantee you as a good artiste but to me, I think it’s your relevance and the years you stay in the music scene,” he added.
