Team news for Burkina Faso and Senegal
Burkina Faso is unbeaten in 10 of their past 11 games in all competitions, with five victories and five draws, with the exception of a group-stage loss to the Indomitable Lions.
While they will now try to keep the juggernaut going, the goal will be to reach the final and better their performance in 2013, when they reached the final before losing a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to three-time champions Nigeria.
However, they face a difficult matchup against an opponent who they have failed to beat in each of the past four meetings between the two sides since 2006, with the last three games ending in draws.
Senegal, on the other hand, has found its stride as the tournament progresses, and they will now be optimistic about their prospects of going all the way this year and ending their continental title drought.
On January 10, Aliou Cisse’s team had to dig deep in their AFCON opening against a tenacious Zimbabwe side, relying on a 97th-minute penalty converted with finesse by Sadio Mane.
Their struggles in the game were a sign of things to come, as they failed to win their subsequent group games, drawing goalless draws against Guinea and Malawi, respectively. However, the Lions of Teranga finished first in Group B with five points from three games, ensuring a smooth passage to the knockout stages.
However, having scored just once in the group stages, Senegal put two past Cape Verde in their round-of-16 clash on January 25 courtesy of second-half goals from Mane and Marseille youngster Bamba Dieng.
The two-time finalist, who lost to Algeria in Egypt three years ago, head into Today’s game unbeaten in 11 straight games, claiming eight wins and three draws since a COSAFA Cup defeat at the hands of South Africa back last July.
