Following calls for his dismissal, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, the former finance minister, wants Ken Ofori-Atta, the current finance minister, to quit.
According to him, the Minister is facing a strong wave of public outrage and needs to stand down right away so that someone else can take over.
“It’s quite unfortunate but I don’t understand why he should continue to occupy that position when the two sides including both the majority and the minority have rejected him.
There is no point in staying on as a Minister when your own people are calling for your head. The best thing for him is to walk away now,” Mr. Duffuor stated.
On November 10, 2022, Parliament will start debating the motion of censure Haruna Iddrisu submitted calling for the resignation of Ken Ofori-Atta, the minister of finance.
The expulsion of Ofori-Atta remained a major topic for the week, according to the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who delivered the Business Statement for the week on the floor of Parliament last Friday.
According to reports, the entire NPP caucus in parliament now backs demands that the Finance Minister step down or be fired.
In Parliament, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu spoke to journalists saying:
“Even though the issue started with a group of 80-plus, the caucus meeting aligned with the decision of that group.”
“So it is no longer the cause of the 80-plus group. It is the agenda for the entire caucus,”
