Chinese national Fran Greg-Quangrong was detained in 2022 after being accused of killing his Nigerian lover, Ummukulsum Sani, with a knife.
On January 11, Kano state informed the Kano state High Court that he had spent more than N60 million on her before killing her.
Fran, who resides in Kano’s Railway Quarters, is on trial for allegedly killing Ms. Sani with a knife in September of last year, violating Penal Code Section 221(b).
On Wednesday, January 11, Greg-Quangrong stated that he is a Muslim, an international trader, and a marketer at BBY Textiles Kwari Market Kano as he was being led in as evidence by his attorney, Muhammad Dan’azumi.
He testified in court that in June 2020, his deceased lover obtained his phone number from a friend and called to express her love for him and her intention to wed him by the grace of God.
“She started requesting money when we started dating in July 2020. Because I loved her, I gave her everything she asked for.
I wired her money more than N60 million, including N18 million to help her start a business, N4 million for a house, and N6 million for university tuition.
Every time I visit her mother to pick her up for dinner at home, she always greets me with open arms,”
He told the court that he was shocked to learn that she married someone else in February 2022.
“I moved to Abuja because I was disappointed and broken-hearted. She persisted in calling me and messaging me on Whatsapp while demanding money. Later, Ummukulsum revealed to me that she was divorcing, pleaded with me to return, and made a second marriage vow to me”.
The bereaved lover claimed that on September 13, 2022, the late Ummukulsum requested funding for the continuation of her Abuja house project. He claimed that after telling her he didn’t have the money, she became furious with him and stopped returning his calls.
“She thought I was broke that was why I don’t want to spend much money on her like before. She told me that she has found a new love and later sent her picture with the new lover on my WhatsApp which provoked me,” he told the court.
