Mr Eugene Arhin, the presidency’s Director of Communications, hinted to the possibility during a news conference at Jubilee House on Monday evening (September 27, 2021).

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has begun consultative sessions with ministers of state at Jubilee House to ensure that they are on board with his plan for his second term.

The three-part meeting will also feature a discussion of their budgetary needs ahead of the release of the 2022 Budget Statement, as well as an assessment of their work plan for the rest of the year.

President Akufo-Addo met 14 of his ministers on Monday evening after returning from a one-week journey to the United States for the 76th United Nations General Assembly.

They were the Ministers of Trade and Industry, Energy, Employment and Labour Relations, Fisheries and Aqua Culture, Public Enterprises, Youth and Sports, Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs.
Other ministers are expected to appear before the President today and tomorrow.

Regarding President Akufo-travel Addo’s to the United States, Mr Arhin stated that in addition to addressing the world body, President Akufo-Addo met with other world leaders on the sidelines.

Mrs. Kamala Harris, the Vice-President of the United States of America; Ms. Mia Mottley, the Prime Minister of Barbados; and Mr. Irfaan Ali, the President of Guyana were among those present.

President Akufo-Addo also met with Ms Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director of the World Trade Organization, and held two fundraising events for the National Cathedral in New York and Houston, according to him.

Talking about oil and gas in the country

According to Mr Arhin, the President of Guyana sought technical assistance from Ghana in the oil and gas sector, as well as overall support for the industry, while President Akufo-Addo confirmed the need for the two nations to develop a framework for technical consultation.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo informed him that Ghana had the potential to teach Guyanese in the oil and gas industry.

Recommendations to the country

According to the communications director, the US Vice-President praised Ghana for solidifying its democratic credentials by holding free and fair elections in December 2020.

She applauded President Akufo-Addo for fostering a business-friendly environment in Ghana, which has resulted in tremendous American investment.

Mrs Harris informed him that the US government was eager to support women-owned enterprises in Ghana, as well as small and medium-sized businesses.

Mr Arhin said that during President Akufo-meeting Addo’s with Barbados Prime Minister, the two agreed to finalize the requisite bilateral air services agreements and designate a carrier to fly between Accra and Bridgetown in order to improve people-to-people ties.

Another topic that was considered, according to Mr Arhin, was the idea of expanding the number of Ghanaian nurses sent to Barbados.

According to him, the Prime Minister of Barbados stated that the cultural resemblance and popular acceptance of the initial deployment of Ghanaian nurses to Barbados provided an excellent foundation for the relationship to grow.
