The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has removed the restrictions on all beaches in the region being closed.
After a conference to review the appearance of the Omicron variety and the subsequent spike in positive cases reported in the region, the decision to close the beaches was made on December 24, 2021.

Aside from beach closures, REGSEC has ordered that no passengers without face masks be permitted to board any public transportation starting Saturday, December 25.
Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey said on Thursday, December 30, 2021, that the beaches may finally be opened. Health authorities would be stationed at the beaches’ entrances, according to him, to vaccinate unvaccinated visitors before giving them admission.
He has warned beach owners and organizers that if they do not follow the rules, they would face serious repercussions. He told Accra’s Adom FM that the committee will not tolerate any disobedience in the face of the beach closures.
“Let me inform the proprietors of these beaches, and I say this absolutely, that any disobedience to the beach closure would not be tolerated.”
“If someone believes the police in his region are not doing enough to prohibit them from functioning, we will arrest all of these organizers and proprietors,” Greater Accra Regional Minister warned.
