The Cyber Security Authority (C.S.A.) has warned the public about online fraud schemes that target clients of major institutions.



The Cyber Security Authority released a statement on Tuesday warning people not to share personal identifying information such as pin numbers, debit/credit card verification values (CVVs), and one-time passwords (OTPs) with anybody who contacts them for such information.

Customers of these banks initially receive an SMS ostensibly from their bank alerting them that they will be contacted by an agent who would assist them with linking their Ghana Cards with their accounts and credit/debit (ATM) cards.
“As part of the linking process, the alleged agents of the banks contact customers and request personal identifiable information (PII) such as Ghana Card details, primary account numbers (PAN) of debit/credit cards, card verification value (CVV) numbers, expiry date of the cards, One Time Password (OTP), and others.”
“Once the required information is supplied, the fraudsters conduct many online transactions, inflicting financial loss to victims,” according to the CSA’s statement.
